Course Name:  MEDICAL PHYSIOLOGY (MPBP 301) , 8 credits

Course Dates:  June 16 - July 21, 2008

Fees:  Vermont resident ($2100) and Non-resident:   ($3000).

Course Description: This 5-week course examines the cellular, systems, and integrative aspects of Medical Physiology, using clinical examples throughout to illustrate fundamental physiological principals. Special attention is given to Cardiovascular, Autonomic, Body Fluids, Renal, Respiration, Endocrine, Gastrointestinal, Muscular and Reproductive systems. The content and instructors of this course are essentially identical to the course given to our medical students. The faculty use lectures and workshops (no laboratory) to present the material in a highly interactive way. Special attention is given to students who have previously experienced difficulty mastering physiological concepts in preparation for their qualifying examinations and clinical rotations. The course is also appropriate for students preparing to enter medical studies. Much of our course material can now be previewed by interested students at this web site by referring to http://physioweb.med.uvm.edu, then select "Courses".

Qualifications:   Students should be well-founded in basic biology, biochemistry, and standard college mathematics. All students must obtain permission of the Department of Molecular Physiology and Biophysics to enroll for the course. If the course is being taken to satisfy a requirement at a student’s "home" institution, a letter attesting to the applicant’s status and approving his/her enrollment must be sent by the Dean or other appropriate official of the institution. This letter is only required of those who must satisfy a requirement elsewhere.

This course will not be offered unless a minimum enrollment is met.
